A second half goal from Emery Bayyisenge steered Saif Sorting Cub to a winning start in the Bangladesh Premier League Football defeating Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society by a solitary goal yesterday.
Saif Sporting Club, who finished the last season on fourth position, despite winning the match could not enjoy one-sided domination but had better possessions.
On the other hands Rahmatganj, who comfortably survived from the relegation last season, looked very cautious at away ground at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh but could not avoid the defeat though created chance to have points.
Rahmatganj had every chance to repeat the result of their Federation Cup match against Saif snatching points when the Fed Cup match was ended on 0-0 draw and on the day also the match was seemingly heading to draw.
However, the game was started with the home sides (Saif Sporting Club) were very offensive to get early goal but Rahmatganj defenders dealt well with the pressures to deny opponents scoring efforts.
Against the strong defense of Rahmatganj, Saif had to wait for the goal for more than 60 minutes and had to satisfy with a lone goal defeats.
After goalless opening 45 minutes Rwandan forward Emery Bayisenge slammed home the all important goal of the match to salvage the day’s favourites Saif Sporting Club.
Saif won a free kick on 65th minute some six to seven meters away from the D-box corner and the Rwandan forward Emery beat the wall and the goalkeeper with a beautiful low kick when the ball went into net just kissing the side post (1-0).
Rest of the time of the game was fought evenly when Rahamtganj and Saif produced equal chances to score goals.
The Old Dhaka outfit could have the equaliser on 67th minute but a strong attempt of Sohel Rana was brilliantly saved by Saif keeper.
But Rahmatganj had the real opportunity to level the margin on 80th minute but their Nigerian recruit midfielder Igwe Kasten did not find the net from inside the box when Enamul provided a good cross.
Saif, who created pressure taking advantage of Golam Jilani men’s all out game at the last few minutes, went closer twice to increase the tally but Murolinzhon could not connect a Jahangir cross on 89th minute and in the stoppage time his (Murolinzhon) powerful long range shot was saved by Rahmatganj keeper Russell.
