Man gets life term for killing father

PATUAKHALI: A Patuakhali district and session judge court sentenced a man to life term imprisonment yesterday for killing his father. District and session judge Bimol Chandra Sikder passed the verdict. The convict is Sanjay Kumar, 28. He was also fined Tk 20,000, in default to suffer two more years for killing his father Harinath Khaskel, 70. According to the court, on February 7, 2014 Sanjay Kumar wanted money from Harinath to buy drugs. As he refused to give the money Sanjay took a sharp weapon from the kitchen and stabbed his father. Hearing hue and cry Harinath’s wife Komola Rani rushed to the spot, but failed to save her husband. Sanjay fled the scene when other family members came to the spot. Later, Harinath was taken to Dumki upazila health complex in critical condition, but the attending doctor there declared him dead. Locals caught Sanjay and handed him over to Dumki police the same day. Later, Komola Rani filed a case against his son. After giving confessional statement before the court on the September 9, 2014, Humayun Kabir, sub inspector of Dumki police station and investigating office of the case submitted charge sheet against the accused. After verifying witnesses and other evidences of the case the court announced the verdict yesterday.
