BNP yesterday claimed that its senior leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury has been denied justice as he was sentenced for his political identity.
The BNP came up with its official response more than 24 hours after the Supreme Court rejected Chowdhury’s plea seeking review of his death penalty in a war crimes case.
“His (Chowdhury’s) political identity got more prominence than the trial. He may have got justice had the documents he submitted were taken into consideration,” BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said while addressing a media briefing at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office.
We expected that he would get justice but he has been denied of his basic rights, Ripon said.
“He fell victim to political vengeance due to his political identity. A person should be tried on the basis of his crimes, not political considerations,” said Ripon.
