A Dhaka court yesterday sent four accused in a case lodged over attempt to murder journalist Mostafizur Rahman Sumon while covering recently-held Dhaka city polls, to jail.
The four accused are- Alauddin, 26, Masud Miah, 20, Russel Hossain, 35, and Apu Miah, 28.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order as police produced the four before court after end of their remand and pleaded to keep them behind bars. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain on February 9 placed the four on a day remand each.
Journalist Sumon was brutally hacked by alleged cadres of newly-elected councillor of ward-34 of Dhaka North City Corporation Sheikh Mohammad Hossain Khokon on February 1 polls day, as he was trying to take photographs of armed goons campaigning for Khokon. The case was filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
