Battered Tigers return home from Pakistan

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

The first group of the dilapidated Bangladesh national team players, completing the second of three-phased tour, returned home from Pakistan yesterday.

A total of eleven players out of the 14-member squad and a BCB official arrived at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport  (HSIA) at around 4.45pm, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Along with Test skipper Mominul Haque- Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Riyad, Soumya Sarker, Mohammad Mithun, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Taijul Islam, Al Amin Hossain, Saif Hasan were all seen leaving the HSIA from VIP Terminal.

Since the Rawalpindi Test ended a day to spare, the Tigers, who, were originally scheduled to fly from Pakistan last night, returned home earlier after majority of the players opted not to stay there for an extra day.

Fast bowlers Abu Jayed, Ebadot Hossain, Rubel Hossain and other coaching staff including head coach Russell Domingo, are all expected to arrive Dhaka today.

In the meantime, none of the players talked to the media before leaving the airport.

Bangladesh’s poor Test run continued after the Tigers’ conceded a humiliating innings and 44-run defeat at the hands of Pakistan in Rawalpindi Test followed by a frustrating T20 series loss last month.

Bangladesh suffered six consecutive Test defeats in which five came out by innings margin. To make it more specific, the Tigers succumbed innings defeat in all their three ICC World Test Championship matches.

Bangladesh will fly to Pakistan again in April to play one-off ODI and second Test of the two-match series in Karachi. The Test is slated to be played from April 5.
