Winter Income Tax Fair begins in cities

RAJSHAHI:  A three-day Winter Income Tax Fair begins here as in other divisional cities in the country yesterday with the main thrust of bringing a new taste and flavor among the city dwellers, reports BSS. This is for the first time the Winter Income Tax Fair is being taken place in the city. Rajshahi Zonal Tax Commissioner’s Office is organising the fair on its office premises. The fair is being arranged for inspiring eligible citizens to pay income tax availing facilities being provided by the government through the National Board of Revenue (NBR) in a hassle-free manner. The citizens have started taking assistance from income tax officials on income tax, registering or re-registering their e-TIN numbers, e-TIN certificates, calculation of income taxes and in filling out income tax return forms to pay their income taxes in the fair. In addition to a consultation point, six stalls from six circles of the zone with extending the services in the fair. Member (Legal and Enforcement) of the NBR Dr Mahbubur Rahman formally inaugurated the fair at a colourful ceremony as the chief guest saying such fair will act as a bridge between the tax officials and taxpayers and urged the officials concerned to show positive attitude towards the taxpayers. With Dabir Uddin, Commissioner of Taxes of the Zone, in the chair, Commissioner of Taxes, Appeal Zone, Rajshahi Hafiz Ahmed Murshed, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Dr Abdul Mannan Shikder and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury also spoke as special guests. In his remarks, Dabir Uddin gave an overview of the fair and said the taxpayers would get enormously benefited by attending the fair.
The fair would help minimise the existing panic and anxiety among the public in general about tax payment and return submission. He told the meeting that the Income Tax zone in Rajshahi has realised income taxes worth Taka 315 crore in last 2014-15 fiscal year, up by Taka 58 crore than the previous 2013-14 fiscal. “The target has been surpassed due to continuous efforts to enhance the number of taxpayers,” said Dabir Uddin adding that the rate of income tax earning has been growing day by day in the wake of bringing simplicity in the tax realisation system together with building cordial relation between the tax officials and taxpayers. “We have set a target to realise taxes worth Taka 410 crore in the current 2015-16 fiscal and we are hopeful about attaining the target by the end of the fiscal,” said the tax commissioner. Around 18,000 new more taxpayers will be identified through survey during the current fiscal. To expand the tax network, various motivational campaigns like tax fair, survey and rewards for the taxpayers have been introduced.
