8-day event starts at BSA today

The ‘First International Indigenous Theatre Festival Dhaka 2015’, first of its kind in the country featuring indigenous plays, will kick off today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city. The eight-day long event has been arranged by Sampriti Natya Utsab Parishad.
Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the festival today at 5pm, while Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will be present as chief guest and Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran as special guest. The festival will simultaneously take place at the National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre Hall and Nandan Mancha of BSA everyday evening until November 26.
The festival will feature theatrical productions by 14 indigenous troupes, including seven local and seven Indian troupes. Every evening, except for the inaugural day, two theatrical troupes, one from Bangladesh and one from India, will bring their plays on stage at the Experimental Theatre Hall and National Theatre Hall respectively.
Manipuri Theatre, Yamuk, Santal Sangskritik Sampraday, Hill Cultural Organisation, Garo Sangskritik Dal, Marma Troupe and Orao Natyadal from Bangladesh are participating in the event, while Indian troupes include Purbabanga, Taiking Cultural and Welfare Organisation, Imphal Theatre, Mizoram Drama Organisation, Taiwari Drama and Cultural Centre, Asama Rangakotha and Mitali Chhau Group.
Sampriti Natya Utsab Parishad has organised the festival to introduce the indigenous drama, music and culture on the bank of two famous rivers Brahmaputra and Meghna of India and Bangladesh, and aiming to make a cultural friendship bridge among Bangladesh and Indian indigenous societies.
Apart from staging the play, the festival will feature cultural programmes by local and Indian troupes everyday at 4pm at Nandan Mancha.
Co-supported by Cultural Ministry, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and India-Bangladesh Foundation, noted theatre personalities Ramendu Mazumdar, Ataur Rahman, Aly Zaker, Nasiruddin Yousuff and other theatre activists will take part in this arrangement.
