80 arrested in 3 districts

Police arrested a total of 80 people, including Jamaat-Shibir activists, in Chapain-awabganj, Jhenidah and Pirojpur districts in drives yesterday.
In Pirojpur, police arrested 33 BNP and Jamaat men from seven upazilas of the district on Tuesday and yesterday.
Among the arrestees, 6 are from Pirojpur Sadar, 4 from Zianagar, 4 from Bhandaria, 8 from Mathbaria, 6 from Nesarabad, 3 from Kawkhali and 2 are from Nazirpur upazila. Md Walid Hossain, superintendent of police in Pirojpur said all the arrestees are accused in different cases.
In Chapainawabganj, a joint force arrested 40 people, including 10 activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir, from different areas of the district on various charges in a drive from Tuesday night to yesterday morning, reports UNB.
A team comprising members of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh conducted the drive in different areas of the district and arrested the 40 people, said the district control room of police.
In Jhenidah, police arrested 9 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) from different places of Jhenidah yesterday morning. Among the arrestees, 2 are from Sadar, 2 from Shailkupa, 3 from Harinakundo, 1 from Kaliganj and 1 from Moheshpur upazila.
Azbahar Ali Sheikh, additional superintendent of police in the district said police conducted separate drives in five upazilas of the district and arrested them over suspicion of subversive activities.
