Bangladesh Bank (BB) yesterday appointed its observers to the four state-owned banks—Sionali, Janata, Agrani and Rupali—in order to supervise their overall operations, reports UNB.
The observers who all are holding the position of executive directors at the central bank are Nowshad Ali Chowdhury for Sonali Bank, Ahmed Jamal for Janata Bank, Nirmal Chakra Bukht for Agrani Bank and Abdur Rahim for Rupali Bank.
Bangladesh Bank governor’s secretariat general manager AFM Asaduzzaman said the observers were appointed under the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed by the central bank with different private and public banks to strengthen good governance.
This is for the first time that Bangladesh Bank appointed observers to the state-owned banks. “They’ll monitor whatever they want into the affairs of the state-owned banks and then report to the central bank for action,” said an official at the central bank.
