UNB

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan police in separate drives arrested three people from Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chittagong districts in connection with the killing of blogger Niladri Chattopadhyay Niloy, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Mufti Maulana Abdul Gaffar, Mortoza Faisal Sabbir and Tarek.
Briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Wednesday noon, Joint Commissioner (DB) of DMP Monirul Islam said a special DB team arrested Mufti Maulana Abdul Gaffar from Sonargaon area in Naryangonj district on Tuesday. Arrested Mufti Gaffar threatened to kill blogger Niloy with machete through facebook two and a half months before the gruesome murder of Niloy.

Slain blogger Niloy posted a status on his facebook account on May 15 this year. After his status, Mufti Maulana Gaffar threatened to hack Niloy after commenting on his status, he said.
Another DB team arrested Tarek from Chittagong on Monday night. Based on his information, the DB team arrested Sabbir from Kachpur of Naryangonj on Tuesday morning, said Monirul.
Tarek was former Chhatra Shibir secretary of Sitakunda thana unit, while Sabbir is the secretary of Bhatiary ward unit secretary of Chhatra shibir.
During interrogation, Tarek revealed that after the murder Sabbir opened a facebook ID named ‘ Ansar al Islam’ and claimed the responsibility for the killing of blogger Niloy. Tarek was the first person who gave ‘like’ to the status and made a comment giving a thank, the DB (joint) Commissioner said.
Earlier on August 7, blogger Niloy, a resident of a rented flat on the 4th floor of a multi-storey building at Goran in the capital, was hacked to death by a group of assailants.
On the following day, his wife Ashamoni filed a case against four unidentified people with Khilgaon Police Station.
However, several hours into the incident, Ansar-Al-Islam, the Bangladesh chapter of al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent, claimed the responsibility for the murder through e-mail from [email protected].
