The government has decided to set up a ship building and re-cycling zone in Barguna district, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said yesterday.
“I will visit Barguna next month to select the site. Most of the people in the southern region remain jobless because of continuous natural disasters like cyclones. So, the government has decided for setting up industrial units in the region centring Paira Sea Port,” the minister said while exchanging views with leader of Shipping Reporters Forum Bangladesh (SRFB) at the secretariat in the capital.
“There will be some massive changes in the area after the completion of the Paira port. Various structures would be constructed which would help tackling natural disasters. Besides, the scope of earning livelihood for the people in the area will increase after the installation of industrial units including garment factories,” Shajahan Khan said.
