The residents of Khulna divisional city yesterday expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court verdicts that upheld death penalties of Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury for their crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
As soon as the death sentence to Mujahid and SQ Chy were handed down on Wednesday, a large number of people including Awami League (AL) Khulna city and district unit, AL students’ wing Chhatra League Khulna unit, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Khulna unit, Muktijoddha Oikya Parishad Khulna unit, Workers Party of Bangladesh Khulna unit chanting the ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan came out in the street.
Different ward and thana units under Khulna city AL brought out processions and distributed sweets among themselves in the respective areas. Khulna district unit convener of Professional Coordination Committee (Pesajibi Samonnoy Parishad), also Vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Prof Dr Muhammed Alamgir gave cheerful satisfaction the verdict against Mujahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
He also demanded banning the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and student body Islami Chhatra Shibir to establish a non-communal state.
From all the processions they made a vow to protect all conspiracies against the trial of war criminals.
They also congratulate the ruling AL government and the tribunal.
