Man to die for killing wife
A court in Gazipur on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in the city in 2009. The convict was identified as Jalal Uddin, a resident of Char Khirati village in Kapasia upazila. The court also fined the convict Tk10,000.
According to the prosecution, Jalal strangled his wife Kakoli Begum, daughter of Yunus Ali, a resident of Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur district, over a family feud and hanged the body with a ceiling in their house on the night of April 22 in 2009.
The victim’s father Yunus Ali filed a case against Jalal with Kapasia Police Station.
After examining witnesses and documents, the District and Session’s Judge AKM Enamul Haque handed down the verdict.

Workshop on brick manufacturing held
A daylong advocacy workshop on brick manufacturing, draft rules on setting up brick kilns and brick-related technology under the "Fresh air and sustainable environment" project was held at Regional Public Administration Training Center (RPATC) in Khulna city on Tuesday.
Directorate of Environment of Khulna Division (DoE) organised the workshop.
Director General of DoE Md Roichul Alam Mondal attended the workshop as the chief guest while Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdus Samad in the chair.
Project Director (PD) of Case Project of DoE Dr S M Monjurul Hannan Khan, Deputy Director of RPATC Hossain Ali Khondokar and Deputy Secretary of DoE Shah Rezwan Hayat addressed as the special guest while Director of Khulna DoE Mallick Anwar Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
Government officials, owners of brick kilns and journalists, among others, attended the workshop.

Call for improving public sanitation facilities
Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has put emphasis on
improving hygienic sanitation facilities for the common people of the city to promote safe hygienic
practices.
He was speaking at the inauguration of construction of a public toilet on Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) premises at a simple ceremony on Tuesday as the chief guest.
Principal of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) Professor Dr Zakir Hossain and Director of RMCH Dr ASM Barkat Ullah attended the ceremony as special guests.
With City Panel Mayor and Councilor for Ward No- 16 Golam Kabir Kajol in the chair, physicians of RMCH, teachers of RMC and a large number of common people attended the programme.

Workshop held at UGC
Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) organised a workshop on University-Industry Research Collaboration (W-4) CP Evaluation Procedure at UGC auditorium on Tuesday.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan attended the workshop as the Chief Guest while UGC members Prof Abul Hashem and Professor Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah were present as the special guests.
Professor Mannan said in the developed countries, universities usually get connected with the industries and work together in order to achieved sustainable development for the national economy.
In this regard Bangladesh has not achieved a lot yet, he observed.
University-Industry Research Collaboration is now being implemented by the HEQEP project of UGC which is financed by World Bank.
