‘Matua Samprodaya’, the agriculture worker and farmer sector of Hindu community and followers of Shri Shri Hari-Guruchand , celebrated ‘Nabanna Utsav’ early yesterday, a festival of new harvesting season, in Natun Bazar area of the city.
The members of Matua sect arranged day-long programmes, including discussion meeting, religious rituals, voluntary blood donations, cultural functions at Adi Shamsan temple , special ‘Nabanna Feast’ and colorful rally on city roads marking the festival.
‘ Mon diey Krishi Karo, Pujo Mati Mae, Mone Rekho, Bechey Achho, Matir Kripae’ (do agriculture earnestly, worship the mother-earth, remind that, you are living on courtesy of the soil), was the theme of the festival.
Social leader Bijoy Krisna Dey attending as chief guest inaugurated the festival in morning presided over by Educationalist D. Gokul Chandra Biswas, convener of the festival committee.
Among others Advocate Swapan datta , Prof Rabindra Natth AdhikariNarayan Chandra Dye Naru, Sydur Rahman Rintu, Gazi Nazmus Hasan Litu, Nittananda Majumdar and Surangeet Datta addressed the discussion.
A colorful procession were brought out from the Adi Swsan premises and paraded almost all the main road of the city.
