5 factories fined Tk 34 lakh

The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined five factories Taka 34 lakh for harming the environment and ecology in Dhaka, Narsingdi and Manikganj, reports BSS.
The DoE yesterday summoned the authorities of the four paper and board mills and one dyeing factory to its Dhaka headquarters, a DoE press release said.
Following hearings, DoE director (Monitoring and Enforcement) AKM Mizanur Rahman fined them for polluting the environment.
Green Bangla Hometex Industries Limited in Narsingdi and Pearl Paper and Board Mills in Dhaka were fined Taka 13 lakh and Taka 3 lakh respectively for not taking environmental clearance certificates and using defective effluent treatment plant (ETP).
Besides, Sattar Board Mills in Manikganj, Base Papers Limited in Dhaka and Aman Board Mills in Manikganj were penalised Taka 11 lakh, Taka 4 lakh and Taka 3 lakh for not setting up ETP and running business without taking environmental clearance certificates.
