20 BNP-Jamaat men arrested in Ctg

At least 20 activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were arrested from different parts of the city and upazilas in special drives of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and District Police yesterday.
CMP arrested eight activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Jamaat-Shibir while Chittagong district police arrested 12 others.
 “We have arrested 12 BNP-Jamaat men from Sitakunda and Lohagara upazilas in the district on charges of carrying out subversive activities after conducting overnight drives in different parts of the area,” said Mohammad Naimul Hasan, additional superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district.
Detective Branch (DB) police of CMP arrested six Jamaat-Shibir men, including a JCD leader, after conducting special drives in Chawkbazar and Hamzarbag areas of the city, over their alleged involvement for carrying out sabotage activities in the port city.
The arrested were identified as, former city unit JCD secretary R U Chowdhury Shahin, Moin Uddin, 26, Kawser Niaj Saimum, 23, Md Kamal Uddin, 30, Golam Mawla, 26, and Abdul Matin, 46.  “The members of DB seized a number of sharp weapons, wooden-sticks, iron-rods and huge number of leaflets from Saimum’s residence, said Abdul Jalil Mandal, CMP Commissioner. “The drives will be continued against saboteurs,” added Jalil.
Meanwhile, Bakalia police on early yesterday arrested two Jamaat leaders from Kalamia Bazar and Balirhat areas in the city as they were warranted accused in several cases filed over sabotage activities in the city. The arrested were identified as Ali Akbar, 50 and Imam Hossain, 42  are the presidents of Balirhat and Kalamia Bazar units Jamaat-e-Islami respectively, said, Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge of Bakalia police station.
