Main accused in Ansar man murder killed in ‘gunfight’

The main accused in the Ansar member Hossain Ali murder case, Jewel (29), was killed in a gunfight in front of a dairy firm in the Hashimpur Bazar area under Kotwali thana early yesterday.  The police recovered a pistol, a one-shooter gun, and 12 rounds of ammunition from the spot. Additional Superintendent of Jashore Police Touhidul Islam said a group of terrorists had shot dead Hossain Ali, a member of the Ansar, in the Hashimpur Bazar area on November 30, 2019. Seven people were arrested on December 14 in connection with this incident.

According to the information provided by them, members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police were trying to arrest Jewel and Munna. Jewel was arrested from Cox's Bazar on Tuesday night. On the basis of the information given by Jewel, DB police launched a raid in the Hashimpur dairy firm area around 2:55 am yesterday to arrest Munna. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Munna and his associates opened fire on the police, triggering a fight.  At that time, Jewel got shot and seriously injured. He was taken to the Jashore General Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
