Speakers at a meeting yesterday laid emphasis on creating awareness among young generation alongside changing patriarchal mindset to prevent all sorts of violence against women. All conscious people should raise voice and work together to address the social problem collectively, they told at a youth gathering here.
Two non-government development organisations, Association for Community Development (ACD) and Manusher Jonya Foundation, jointly organised the meeting on prevention of violence against women at Shaleha Shah Muhammad High School under Charghat Upazila in the district. The main thrust of the meeting was to sensitize the youths on the issue.
Upazila Chairman Fakhrul Islam and Officer-in-Charge of Katakhali Police Station Zillur Rahman addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with ACD Programme Director Sharmin Subrina in the chair. Women Affairs Officer Rasheda Khatun, Social Service Officer Mofizul Islam, Youth Development Officer Mukhlesur Rahman and Union Parishad Chairmen Shafiul Alam and Ziaul Haque also spoke.
The discussants urged for providing legal assistance and effective enforcement of laws to eliminate repression and violence against women. Urging all to be united for establishing the rights of women, Fakhrul Islam said, “We should create a congenial atmosphere for women at all spheres in the society for ensuring their dignified life.”
