Postal Academy staff gets 23 years jail

A trial court here has convicted a staff of Bangladesh Postal Academy and sentenced him to suffer 23 years in jail on charges of his involvement in various corruptions. Rajshahi Divisional Special Judge Ismat Ara found Shalah Uddin, superviser of the academy, guilty of the corruption charge and handed down the verdict in his presence on Wednesday afternoon. The court also fined him Taka 1,75,195.

Ameer Hossain, Inspector of Rajshahi office in Anti- corruption Commission (ACC), told the journalists that Shalah Uddin misappropriated huge government money in different times from 2002 to 2004. Subsequently, the ACC’s local office had lodged five separate cases against him. Upon completion of investigation ACC Assistant Director Samar Kumar Jhan pressed charges accusing him in 2006.

After examining the recorded depositions of prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the court handed down the verdict of the five cases simultaneously sentencing the accused to suffer 23 years behind the bar in total. Advocate Abdul Bari conducted the case on behalf of the state.
