Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon expressed hope to see high-quality performance from the Bangladesh squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia from February 21.

The BCB yesterday arranged the official photo session of the women’s cricket team for the world cup.

“I always expect something big from the women’s team. They will represent the country in the world cup. It’s a matter of great pride for us. I won’t say they have been performing exceptionally well, but they haven’t played badly either. We’re the champion side in Asia. Considering this, we’re in a good position,” Papon told reporters at the official photo session at the SBNCS yesterday.

“It's true that the girls don’t always get the facilities enjoyed by the men’s team. But we’re going to improve matters soon. The Tigresses have enough confidence in their own abilities and that means a lot,” he said.

A 15-member team, led by Salma Khatun, is likely to leave for Australia on February 2.

Regarding their early departure, Papon said: “We’re going to Australia 13 days before the tournament starts. This will help the players prepare well. They have been working hard. I’m pretty confident that the girls would bring a lot of success for us.”

The Bangladesh women’s team has been placed in Group A along with Australia, New Zealand, India, and Sri Lanka.

Considering the strength of the opponents, Slama Khatun said they had to be at their best in every match. “We expect to play good cricket and win some matches. Australia and New Zealand are certainly tough teams, but we haven’t played against them. We’ve to assess the conditions and execute our plans well on the field,” Slama told reporters at the SBNCS.

“We have a good bowling unit. We are also trying to improve our batting and fielding. So, I expect something good from both departments,” she said.

Bangladesh national team vice-captain Rumana Ahmed said she would try to play the role of a perfect all-rounder in the mega event. “I am very lucky to make a comeback from a tough situation and to have an opportunity to play in the world cup. I always think of myself as an all-rounder,” she added.

“We played good cricket in the recent past. We know that every team is a big opponent. So, we will give our best in every situation,” she said.
