LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam yesterday sought support from the development partners to a bigger extent to continue the current trend of the development in Bangladesh.
“The debt repayment trend of Bangladesh is very appreciable and I’ll seek more support from our development partners as well as urge them to remain with us in the coming days considering the present trend of Bangladesh’s development.” he said.
The minister said this while addressing the key-note session of the Bangladesh Development Forum (BDF) 2020 titled “Effective Partnership for Implementing the 8th Five Year Plan: Aiming Towards Achieving SDGs” held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam chaired the session while General Economics Division (GED) Member of the Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam made the key-note presentation.
Finance Secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Rensje Teerink, DFID country representative to Bangladesh Judith Herbertson and Chair of BRAC global brand Ameerah Haq, spoke, among others, at the session.
The LGRD minister said with the collective efforts from all the stakeholders, including the development partners, the government would be able to scale up further the country and thus materialize the dreams of the common people.
Turning to the Rohingya issue, Tajul said the government of Sheikh Hasina gave shelter to the forcibly displaced Rohingyas on humanitarian ground and this has become a big pressure on the country.
