85pc satisfied with govt performance: Survey

People’s satisfaction in performance of PM rises by 15pc than that of last year

At least 85 per cent people of the country are satisfied with the performance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as her government is running the country keeping it on the right track over the period of last one year, according to a survey conducted by Australia-based survey firm Research International (RI). “The RI has conducted a nationwide mobile phone survey in Bangladesh to evaluate the current government’s first one year in the office,” said Australian expatriate researcher Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Milton while presenting the survey report at a press conference in the capital’s National Press Club yesterday. “Of the total respondents, 80 per cent think that the current government has performed better compared to its previous two tenures,” reveals the survey. They have also expressed satisfaction with the performance of Sheikh Hasina as the prime minister, reads the report. “People’s satisfaction in the performance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has increased by 15 per cent compared to the previous year,” disclosed the survey. “Among the ministries,” according to the survey findings, “Ministry of Education, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Home Affairs were reported as the top three performing ministries.” The survey also found Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader and Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni to be the top two performing ministers based on the answers as given by the respondents.

“Of the total respondents, 48 per cent felt the absence of a strong opposition political

party. Alarmingly, BNP and the Jatiya Party are losing importance in national politics,” the survey found.

The report also revealed that 65 per cent and 72 per cent of the respondents were not interested in talking about the BNP and Jatiya Party respectively.

It was reported that the price hike of commodities including the skyrocketing onion prices, unemployment, dwindling law and order situation, and Rohingya crisis were among some of the failures of the incumbent government during its first year in office.

The Padma Bridge, reining in corruption, development of transport communication and education are some of the achievements, which were reported by the respondents, the survey found.
