142 players take part in beep test

The 2020 players’ draft of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), the franchisee-based longer version cricket tournament, will be held at the media block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur at 11.00am today.

The management of the four zonal teams, including two franchisee teams: Walton Central Zone and Islami Bank East Zone while the BCB kept two teams-BCB North and BCB South under their belt after Prime Bank pulled them out of the South Zone in BCL- will form their respective team with only fit players, who met the required points of maximum 11 in the beep test.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had arranged a beep test to examine the fitness of the players in the Mirpur Indoor of the SBNCS on Sunday. A string of players including Tushar Imran, Nadif Chowdhury, Abdur Razzak, Farhad Hossain, Mohammad Shohid, Sajedul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful, Dhiman Ghosh skipped the beep test before the kick-off of the test. Some have been failed to cross the hurdle of the maximum requirement (11 points) in beep test. Alauddin Babu, Avishek Mitra and so on failed to put up the required marks.

This time the stiff directives have been given from the board that the list will be prepared with only fit players, who passed the beep test. A total of 142 players were enlisted for the test.

The BCB has encouraged following the rules strictly this time around as they had got 130 players, who had 11 or 11-odd ahead of the NCL when they slapped the fitness requirement of maximum 11.

It’s no problem for them because they need 80 players for BCL. The national team’s players will play the first and third round of the league. Along with that, Under-19 players, who are now in South Africa for ICC Under-19 World Cup, will be available from the third round.
