Three sentenced to death for killing youth

UNB, Gaibandha

A court here on Thursday sentenced three people to death for their roles in killing a young man in 2015. Eight others were jailed for five years. The court of Gaibandha District and Sessions Judge Dilip Kumar Bhowmik fined the convicts Tk 1 lakh each.

Those who have been sentenced to death are - Shahriar Sarker Ridoy, Rakibul Hasan Sajib and Mahmudul Hasan Zakir. Other convicts are - Masud Prodhan Sujon, Al Amin Islam, Rabeya Begum, Al Amin, Shimul Mia, Runa Begum, Jahangir Alam and Joynal Abedin.

Mother, son electrocuted

UNB, Jashore

A woman and her son were electrocuted at Titabajitpur village in Keshabpur upazila on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Josna Begum, 35, wife of Alim Morol, and their son Al Amin, 18.

Mohammad Abu Sayeed, officer-in-charge of Keshabpur Police Station, said Al Amin went to a water body in the village to repair a motor for pumping water.

As he was not returning home, his mother went to the Pashim beel and found her son lying beside the motor.

Elderly woman stabbed to death in Natore

UNB, Natore

An elderly woman was stabbed to death allegedly by miscreants at Pargurudaspur in Gurudaspur upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Monwara Begum, 65, wife of Hatem Ali.

Anarul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gurudaspur Police Station, said miscreants swooped on the house of Monwara and stabbed her indiscriminately, leaving her injured.

Later, she was taken to local hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead.

Blankets distributed among cold-hit people in Kushtia

West zone power distribution company ( WZPDCLd)) Kushtia on Tuesday distributed  1,000 blankets among the cold-stricken people in the district.

In the programme superintend engineer of West Zone Power Distribution Company ( WZPDCLd)) Kushtia Ariful Islam called upon affluent people to stand beside the distressed people to mitigate their sufferings.  The cold hit people mobilized on the platform of Kushtia court station to collect the blankets. The executive engineers Shabnam-e-Jahan , Pronab Chandra Nath and employees were present during the programme.

Two killed in road accidents

BSS, Gopalganj

Two people, including a minor boy, were killed in two separate road accidents in the district yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Riyadh Kazi, 7, hailed from Ratil village in Kashiani Upazila and Siful Islam, 45, a resident in Bagerhat district.

Officer-in-Charge of Kashiani Thana Azizur Rahman said Riyadh was killed as an auto-rickshaw hit him this afternoon in Khaerhat Jalpar area in the upazila. Later, he was brought to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead. Besides, Siful Islam died as a passenger bus crashed his motorcycle in Singripara area this afternoon in Tongipara upazila. He died on the spot, said the OC in Tongipara Thana ASM Nasim.
