Says IRI survey

Bangladeshis have a strong support for the Awami League government, according to a survey of the International Republican Institute (IRI). The survey, conducted by US-based IRI’s Centre for Insights in Survey Research, finds a very high approval rating of the government with 83 percent saying they approve of the job the government is doing. The result statement of the survey was published on the IRI website.

A significant majority of people approve of the job the government is doing in key sectors, including education (90 percent), electricity (86 percent), transportation infrastructure (81 percent), clean water (77 percent), fighting violent extremism (76 percent), healthcare (74 percent) and keeping peace (71percent). The majority also responded that they are generally satisfied with the job being done by their elected MPs.

Some 76 percent responded that their MPs are either doing a very good or somewhat good job. The report also finds that 76 percent of respondents believed Bangladesh is heading in the right direction, citing improvements in overall development of the country (22percent), better economy (16percent), transportation infrastructure (11percent), higher living standard (10percent) and better education (7percent).

Besides, people are generally satisfied with the political, economic and security situation. According to the report, Bangladesh is facing with the biggest problems like corruption (19percent), drugs (17 percent), unemployment (10percent) and security (7percent).
