A female garment worker was reportedly ‘gang-raped’ after confining her husband to a room in Jamgora area of Ashulia early yesterday as they reportedly failed to pay the house rent. Police arrested key suspect, Abdul Kalam, 40, house owner, over the incident. The victim said she and her husband, also a garment worker, were living in a rented room owned by Kalam. They could not clear the rent for the month of December as their factory was delaying to pay their wages.
Around 12am, house owner Kalam along with his five accomplices came to the room and sought the house rent, she said. When the couple sought more time for clearing the rent, they locked her husband to a nearby room and violated her one after another, the victim claimed, alleging that they also took away her gold chain, earrings and bangles. Sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station Selim Reza said they were trying to arrest the other suspects.
