A mobile court of Barishal City Corporation (BCC) demolished part of building constructed without plan in Beauty Cinema Road area of the city yesterday.
Imtiaz Mahmud Jewel, executive magistrate of BCC, led the eviction drive.
The building was constructed encroaching eight decimal land of BCC and a road connecting to port and Chawk Bazaar areas within few yards of BCC Nagar Bhavan, the magistrate added.
During construction local people raised objection and BCC also issued notice against encroachment of road, but it was ignored by the building owner, So BCC operated the eviction drive in public interest, said Kazi Moazzem Hossain, administrative officer of the BCC.
Owner of the building was not available for comment and none created any obstacle against the eviction drive.
