Bangladesh U19 national cricket team suffered a crushing four-wicket defeat over their counterparts New Zealand U19 in the second official warm-up match ahead ICC World Cup U19 yesterday at the Rice Field, St. John's College in Johannesburg.
Put into bat, a massive up-front batting collapse led Bangladesh U19 shot out for 112 which the opposition chased down quite comfortably by four wickets in hand with 123 balls to spare.
Youth Tigers openers Tanzid Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan bite the dust in the very first over holed out to Kiwi wicket-keeper Ben Pomare off Joey Field. Prantik Nawrose Nabil added more misery to the Tigers’ camp before being knocked up in the second over of the innings. At 9 for 3, Joey Field ran through the middle order picking up two more wickets inside the mandatory power-play.
When the youth Tigers’ were in all sorts of trouble losing top five in no time, skipper Akbar Ali and most consistent middle order batsman Towhid Hridoy tried to rebuild the innings with an invaluable 57-run stand for the sixth wicket. But Kiwi leg-spinner Adithya Ashok had different idea for the duo and successfully claimed the wickets of Akbar Ali and Towhid Hridoy to end all hopes for the Tigers. Youth Tigers’ survived only 29 overs to bowl out for 112.
Joey Field and Adithya Ashok took four and three wickets respectively.
