A Jashore court has issued an arrest warrant against former police inspector Moazzem Hossain as a cheque issued by him had earlier bounced at the bank.
Moazzem borrowed Tk. 6.40 lakh from Mahbub Alam, a member of the Jashore Lawyers' Association, pledging to repay the money in a few days. But he kept evading Mahbub instead of keeping his pledge.
After much pressing, however, Moazzem wrote a cheque of Sonali Bank (Bagerhat branch) for the full amount and asked Mahbub to encash it. But after submission of the cheque it was found that he did not have that much money in his account.
Later, Mahbub requested Moazzem to pay the amount through a legal notice, but he did not give it.
After failing to recover the money, Mahbub finally filed a case against Moazzem on November 6 last year. The judge accepted the charge and ordered that an arrest warrant be issued against Moazzem.
