Baul singer Shariat Sarkar sent to jail

A Tangail court yesterday sent Baul singer Shariat Sarkar to jail for hurting religious sentiment. Senior Judicial Magistrate of Tangail, Akramul Islam passed the order after police produced the singer before the court at the end of a three-day remand. The court also fixed February 12 as the next hearing date. Lawyer for the accused, Jiniya Box, said, “A case was filed against the Sufi Baul Shariat Sarker after he had allegedly defamed Islam and its prophet at a concert.
