Taposh pledges clean city

AL mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh conducted electioneering in the city’s Kamrangichar area yesterday and pledged to dedicate himself as a servant for the residents of DSCC if elected mayor in the coming polls.  “I will be devoted to the people, if I am elected as the mayor of the city corporation,” he promised, urging all-out cooperation to build a modern city corporation in the days to come. “If you vote for me and elect me as the mayor of DSCC through January 30 city polls, Nagar Bhaban office will be made open 24 hours the whole week to ensure smooth service for my city dwellers,” the AL leader said. Barrister Taposh, also the immediate past lawmaker from Dhaka-10 constituency, sought vote for “Boat” symbol in the DSCC polls, expressing his firm pledge that Dhaka would be built as a beautiful and clean city under his leadership. Refuting the allegation of BNP’s mayoral candidate, the AL leader said, “We’re not violating any polls rules . . . Election campaign is going on following the electoral code of conduct.”

AL Advisory Council Member Mukul Bose, Joint-General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organising Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Dhaka South City unit of AL President Hazi Abul Hasnat, former General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad and Juba Mohila League General Secretary Apu Ukil, among others, accompanied the AL mayoral candidate during his electioneering in 55, 56, 57 wards of DSCC.

Meanwhile, Sadek Khan, the Awami League lawmaker from Dhaka-13 constituency, yesterday attended an election meeting of party’s mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation.Atiqul Islam in Agargaon, which was seen by many as a violation of the electoral code of conduct.

The ruling Awami League had earlier made promises that it would adhere to the electoral code of conduct during the campaigning for the Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections slated for January 30. The ruling party MPs and ministers would not join the party nominated candidates’ campaigning for city polls, the party had announced.

AL leader Sadek Khan joined the election meeting of Atiqul Islam at Agargaon in the city yesterday morning but later he left the place, without joining in any other electioneering activity.
