The audience who loves cinema must remember ‘Ghuddi’, one of the most romantic films of the 80s. Noted filmmaker Syed Salahuddin Zaki made the classic film casting Raisul Islam Asad and Suborna Mustafa in the lead roles. Four decades have passed since its release, but still it afresh in the audience mind.

Here is the good news for cinema lovers that after 40 years, Zaki is going to make the sequel of ‘Ghuddi’.

Director Zaki made the announcement on making the sequel of ‘Ghuddi’ at a function the Dhaka Club on Monday evening. Initially, ‘Krantikal’ has been selected as the film’s working title. Josim Ahmed will produce the film.

Salahuddin Zaki said, “Josim and I are working together to make a new film titled ‘Boba Mati’. We also prepared a script for the film. Meanwhile, the idea of making ‘Krantikal’ was emerged. We will start shooting for ‘Krantikal’ in this summer. And, we are looking for some fresh artistes, those who are able to work nonstop staying in the camp.”

Producer Josim Ahmed said, “The filmmaker would speak about his time and express his grievance over the time in the film. The way Asad in ‘Ghuddi’ was looking for his identity, still the generations after generations are doing the same. This is the period of a transition (Krantikal). That’s why, we gave the working title of the film as ‘Krantikal’.”

However, ‘Ghuddi’ was released on December 19 in 1980. Alongside directing the film, Zaki also wrote its story, screenplay and dialogue. The film included Nasir Uddin Yusuf, Tariq Anam Khan, Nayla Azad Nupur and Syed Hasan Imam in the supporting roles. In the film, Raisul Islam Asad was a freedom fighter, who also is a freedom fighter in the real life.

Zaki won the prestigious National Film Award for ‘Ghuddi’ in the best dialogue writer category.

The film also made the sibling musicians, Lucky Akhand and Happy Akhand a part of history of Bangla cinema who created the timeless song ‘Abar Elo Je Sandhya’ for ‘Ghuddi’.
