Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s unbeaten 124-run innings against West Indies in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup has been nominated as one of the best performances in the Espncricinfo’s batting category 2019 awards, the cricket website released yesterday.
The popular cricket website ESPNcricinfo published a shortlist of ten best ODI batting performances (nine performances picked up from the World Cup) for the 2019 year in which Shakib’s magnificent World Cup knock also earned a place.
In that match Shakib’s unbeaten 124 of just 99 deliveries with 16 fours helped Bangladesh handsomely chased down 322-run target with 51 balls remaining and seven wickets in hand.
“Batting at No. 3, Shakib scored his second hundred of the World Cup while anchoring Bangladesh’s biggest chase in ODIs. With rain interrupting the chase, Shakib had to be mindful of the DLS par score as he batted. West Indies' bowlers looked to aim at his ribs but he blunted the attack and took advantage of Taunton's short boundaries, a limping Andre Russell, and some luck to add 189 runs with Liton Das. Shakib hit many attractive shots but he was also fortunate that several of his edges fell safely between fielders or raced away to the boundary,” ESPNcricinfo in its website, evaluated Shakib’s innings.
Shakib Al Hasan, currently serving two-year ban, with one year that of suspended from all forms of cricket, had a dream 2019 cricket World Cup in England, producing a brilliant all-round performance both with bat and ball, scoring 606 runs and claiming 11 wickets from eight matches.
The 32-year-old premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan smashed two centuries, five half centuries with an excellent average of 86.57 in the World Cup.
