With the hopes of playing in the final, Rajshahi Royals will face off Chattogram Challengers in the qualifier-2 of the ongoing Akash-DTH Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Mirpur today.
The day-night encounter will begin at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) at 6:30pm.
Rajshahi was beaten by Khulna Tigers in the qualifier-1, while Chattogram Challengers thrashed Dhaka Platoon in the eliminator to fix their clash for the qualifier-2 before breaking into the final.
This will be the last chance for both teams. So, the match will be high-voltage and pressure-filled, where none of Rajshahi or Chattogram will easily give in without any fight because the winners will storm into the final, where Khulna Tigers have already ensured their berth.
At first attempt, Khulna have progressed to the final. They did not give much chance to Rajshahi to spread any domination with bat and ball. Firstly, they compiled a fighting total on the board and their bowlers defended it in an emphatic way.
Rajshahi’s batters and bowlers did not make any crack in their both innings. As a result, they conceded loss to Khulna Tigers.
In Twenty20 cricket, one or two players are enough to win a match. In that sense, both teams are enriched with fire-power and pinch-hitting batsmen.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraj, Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah Riyad along with Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton are in the batting line-up, while Mahedi Hasan Rana, Rubel Hossain and Nasum Ahmed are in the bowling attack for the Chattogram Challengers.
On the other hand, Liton Kumar Das, Afif Hossain, Shoaib Malik, Ravi Bopara, Andre Russell, Forhad Reza are in the batting line-up, while Mohammad Irfan, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Abu Jayed Rahi are spearheading their pace attack.
Of them, Afif Hossain, Liton Kumar Das and Shoaib Malik are in fine form. Chattogram are thinking much about these top-order players of the Royals. Rajshahi played so far 13 matches wherein the Liton-Afif pair gave fifty-odd partnership in seven matches. They won the bulk of the matches in their fifty-odd partnerships.
Malik placed fifth and Liton sixth in highest run-scoring table for which Chattogram team manager Faheem Muntasir Sumit said they will make ready special plan for these batsmen so that they can take the rein of the match easily dismissing them and march forward to the final.
“Of course, Rajshahi Royals are a good and well-balanced team. Their top-order batsmen are in good form. They won the match when their top-order scored,” said Chattogram team manager Faheem Muntasir Sumit.
“Batsmen especially Afif, Liton and Shoaib Malik are in good form. We will have a special plan for them,” Sumit told media.
