Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has taken Tk 293 crore project to enhance safety and security at Dhaka, Chittagong, Jessore and Syedpur airports by installing radars and scanning machines, reports BSS. Of the amount, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Tk 188.83 crore as a grant and rest of Tk 104.55 crore come from the CAAB’s own fund. Japanese Sumitomo Corporation will provide technical support to implement the project. An agreement between CAAB and Sumitomo was signed at the CAAB headquarters in the capital yesterday in this regard. The project got approval from ECNEC in last December. CAAB Chairman Air-Vice Marshal M Sanaul Haque, Director Air Commodore M Mostafizur Rahman and First Secretary of Japanese Embassy here Sasahara Hediyesi were present on the occasion. Under the project, the CAAB will install modern primary and secondary radar at Chittagong airport, air navigator gear - DVOR and DME at Jessore and Syedpur airports and baggage x-ray scanning machine and access control system at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.
