Dynamics of the Dynamites

Dynamics of the Dynamites

All eyes were expectedly on the Dhaka Dynamites during the blockbuster ‘Players By Choice’ draft ceremony and the owners and the team strategists did not disappoint, drafting in a host of world-class cricketers. Even though the third edition of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 will be anything but a rosy ride, the Dhaka fans can rest be assured, knowing that the team is in good hands as owner Shayan F Rahman and CEO Obeid Nizam are keen cricket enthusiast.
Upon acquiring the rights of the franchise, Beximco knew it had to form a formidable squad with a mixture of youth and experience. This is not the first time that Beximco, one of the country’s largest industrial conglomerates, has been involved with cricket. The organisation also sponsored the Bangladesh cricket team during the 2011 ICC World Cup. And as far as experience goes, there is no finer example than veteran Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara, who is all set to be named the captain of the side.
Sanga, a champion in his own right, will no doubt be extremely content with the combination of his team. The Dynamites boast a plethora of talents, and it is evident in their line-up comprising some solid all-rounders, swashbuckling batsmen and powerhouse bowlers.
Icon cricketer, all-rounder Nasir Hossain will spearhead the local batsmen’s cause. A lethal finisher in his own right, these days Nasir is also potent with his gentle off-spinners. He will no doubt aid the Dynamites’ cause with his power hitting and clever off-spin. The 23-year old is also a brilliant fielder, no matter where he is placed on the field.
While the bowling department will be led by the Tigers’ newest pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman. The main strength of Dhaka’s bowling order lies in their versatility as the franchise are well-stocked in both the pace and spin departments.
Tall Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan can be extremely dangerous on his day while compatriot Sohail Khan has the ability to be potent with both the new and old ball. Local seamer Shaykat Ali, in contrast, can very well be the surprise package for the Dynamites in BPL 3.
The major attraction of the Dhaka spin attack is perhaps Pakistani Yasir Shah. The 29-year old has made a tremendous start to his international career and in his pursuit of success, he will be ably supported by local spinners Mosharrof Hossain and Nabil Samad. Yasir is probably one of the hottest prospects in world cricket at the moment.
One cannot simply pinpoint a stronger department in the Dynamites set-up as both the batting and bowling orders are finely balanced.
Pakistani opening duo Nasir Jamshed and Shahzaib Hasan are renowned for their fireworks at the start of an innings while Bangladesh batsman Shamsur Rahman can both build knocks and cause rampage at the same time.
Part-time wicketkeeper-batsman Irfan Shukkur and emerging star Mosaddek Hossain complete the Dynamites’ batting set-up. Big things are being expected from the young Mosaddek, who is the only Bangladesh cricketer to score three domestic first-class double centuries in a calendar year. It goes without saying that Mosaddek will add a lot of strength in the middle- and lower-order.
The all-rounders’ list, meanwhile, makes for great viewing. Besides Nasir, the Dynamites can also count on the likes of Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate, Bangladesh’s Abul Hasan and seasoned campaigner Farhad Reza.
All the great sides, no matter what sport, over the years have had great coaches and the Dynamites are well-covered in that department too. Former South Africa and Australia coach Mickey Arthur will be at the helm of the Dynamites while former Tigers paceman Saiful Islam, member of the triumphant 1997 ICC Trophy side, will perform his duties as the assistant coach. Former Tigers opener Athar Ali Khan was named the team manager while former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon will act as the team advisor.
