Railway Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan yesterday said assets specially lands of railway will be recovered from the illegal occupants offsetting their influence or power. “Whoever the land-grabbers are, lands of railway will be recovered without considering their influence and power… And those recovered lands will be used for the development of the railway sector,” he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a programme at Chattogram Railway Officers’ Club organised by railway officials, said a press release. Former MP Mahfuzul Huq Chowdhury presided over the programme. Sujan said the ministry is trying to build a railway system similar to that of a developed country, he said, adding the stations are also being modernised.
The minister said the work of Akhaura-Laksam-Chittagong line is underway. Additional Secretary of the ministry M Mojibur Rahman and Director General Md Nasir Uddin were present, among others.
