RANGPUR: Central 'Sura' member and former Rangpur divisional Ameer of Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh Mantaz Uddin was arrested from Kamarpara area of the city yesterday, police sources said. A special squad of Kotwali Thana police, led by its Sub-inspector (SI) Hossain Ali arrested top ranking Jamaat leader Mantaz Uddin, 60, son of late Moyez Uddin of village Dadon under Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur district. The arrested Jamaat leader, allegedly involved in many subversive and terrorist activities, had been on the run for a long time and the law enforcement agencies were in search for him at different areas in the country, reports BSS. Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Thana Abdul Kader Zilani told BSS this afternoon that arrested Jamat leader Mantaz Uddin was undergoing primary interrogation in connection with various criminal offences, subversive and terrorist activities. Police in seperate drives also arrested nine activists of Jamaat, four Shibir cadres and five BNP men from different areas in the district last night on charges of subversive activities and sent them to jail after producing before concerned Rangpur
courts yesterday after-noon.
