The government has taken up several projects to establish housing funds to provide loans to the poor people in rural areas and to construct hostels/dormitories for the workers.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the announcement while placing the national budget for 2015-16 fiscal at parliament yesterday.
In order to provide housing for women workers in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital, a women’s hostel with a capacity of 744 seats, is being constructed, he said.
A MoU has also been signed to construct hostels/dormitories for the workers, employed by the BGMEA member factories, with monetary assistance from the housing fund, Muhith said in his budget speech.
