Winter vegetables hit Rajshahi markets

With the advent of winter, the prices of vegetables are on decrease in the kitchen markets of Rajshahi. In Shaheb Bazar, New Market, Sadhur More, Binodpur and Upasahar Market, plenty of supply of winter vegetables appeared at low prices, informed consumers. Abur Rahman, a vegetable trader at Shabeb bazaar, informed the winter is yet to set in fully; yet prices of all types 0f vegetables have decreased largely. He mentioned that depending on favourable climate and adequate rain fall, many farmers cultivated various kinds of winter vegetables in their fields to recoup lossed they incurred from potato, onion and garlic last year. But, the luck did not favour them. The prices of vegetables remained ever low at the onset of winter this year as well.
In Shaheb Bazar, retailers were selling bean at Tk 35 to 40 per kilogramme, brinjal at Tk 36 to 40, cucumber at Tk 40, chichinga at Tk 15 to 20, bottle gourd at Tk 20 each, chal kumra (ash gourd) at Tk 25 to 30 a piece, olive at Tk 30 per kg, radish at Tk 15 to 20 per kg, papaya at Tk 12 to 15 per kg and cabbage at Tk 40 per kg, cauliflower at Tk 35 to 40 each and chilli at Tk. 40 per kg. Potato was being sold at Tk 26 per kg, local variety onion at Tk60 and Indian variety at Tk 45 to 50, garlic at Tk 80 and ginger at Tk 80 per kg.
Meanwhile, hisha fish are being sold at Tk 450 to 500 per kg and Jatka at Tk 350 to 400 per kg while Ruhi fish is being sold at Tk 160 to 200 per kg, shoal fish at Tk 200 to 280 per kg and tilapia at Tk 120 to 160.
The prices of beef and mutton have remained unchanged and are being sold at Tk 350 to 360 and Tk. 450 to 500 respectively.
Chicken (local) is being sold at Tk 250 to 260 per kg and broiler is being sold at Tk 140 per kg in various markets of the city.
Prices of edible oil and spices, however, have remained stable in the markets.
