Medical students’ orientation on Jan 10

BSS, Dhaka

Classes of MBBS first year students of different medical colleges will begin on

January 10.

Sir Salimullah Medical College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, Pabna Medical College and Comilla Medical College will hold orientation programmes on their respective campuses on the day, said the college authorities in separate media releases.

Sir Salimullah Medical College will hold the orientation programme at 10am at its academic building while Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, Pabna Medical College and Comilla Medical College will organise the program at their respective auditorium at 10am.

All first year students and their guardians have been requested to attend the orientation programme of their respective colleges on time.

JnU getting ready for maiden convocation

UNB, Jagannath University

The authorities of Jagannath University are taking preparations to hold its first convocation on January 11.

A total of 18,317 graduates have registered for attending the convocation. Among them, some 11,877 are to get their graduation certificates, alongside 4,829 postgraduates, 11 Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) and six doctorates (PhD). Apart from them, 1,574 students will receive their certificates for evening programmes.

The convocation will be held at Dhupkhola ground. The online registration for the convocation began on March 1.

Students who will attend the convocation have been asked to collect their costumes, bags and gifts from offices of their respective departments on January 7, 8, and 9.

Besides, certificate will be given on January 11 (3pm-8pm), January 12 and 13 (9am-4pm). President Abdul Hamid will preside over the grand event while Emeritus Professor Dr Arun Kumar Basak will attend it as the convocation speaker.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mizanur Rahman said it had not been possible to arrange convocation because of various complexities. “We’ll make it a successful convocation with the assistance of teachers and students,” he said.

The then Jagannath College was turned into a university in 2005.

IU Chemistry dept gets new chairman

UNB, Islamic University

Professor Ashok Kumar Chakraborty has been made the new chairman of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department of Islamic University in Kushtia.

IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari appointed him to the post for the next three years, IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said.

He was appointed to the post as the tenure of the previous chairman, Professor Atiqur Rahman, came to an end, he added.
