Tk 12,699cr allocated for agriculture sector

The government has earmarked Tk 12,699 crore as non-development and development expenditure for agriculture sector in the proposed national budget for 2015-16 fiscal year, reports BSS.
Under the allocation, the government has allocated Tk 10,875 crore as non-development expenditure and Tk 1,824 crore as development expenditure.
In the current budget, the development expenditure is Tk 392 crore more than the allocation of Tk 1,432 crore earmarked in the revised budget in 2014-15. The overall allocation for the agriculture in the current national budget is Tk 421 crore more than the allocation in the revised budget of 2014-15 and it is Tk 624 crore more than the actual budget allocation of 2013-14.
In 2013-14, the government allocated Tk 12,075 crore as agriculture budget where some Taka 10,803 as no-development expenditure and Tk 1,272 as development expenditure.
The agriculture sector has occupied fifth position in sector-wise resource distribution including the allocation of subsidies and pensions under the budget as 6.8 per cent of the total resource has been earmarked for the sector.
On the other hand, the other four top-prioritised sectors are public administration with 19.2 per cent resources, education and technology with 11.6 per cent, transport and communication with 9.7 per cent, local government and rural development with 7.1 per cent share of resource. Besides this, the government also has been allocated Tk 9,000 crore to meet the expenditure on fertiliser and other agricultural incentives in the budget for FY2015-16.
Provision of support for agriculture inputs, extension of agricultural land by removing water-logging and expanding irrigation facilities, distribution of agriculture input assistance cards, development of farmers’ data-base, provision of rehabilitation assistance for farmers, provision of training, diversification of crops, facilitation of marketing for agro-products, encouragement for production and use of organic fertilizers and supply of seeds have been emphasised in the current budget.
