Hotel worker found dead

UNB, Joypurhat

Police recovered the body of a teenage hotel worker boy from a potato field at Chanpara in Panchbibi upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Jihad Hossain, 16, Maznu Miah. He has been working at a hotel in Chanpara Bazar for the last one and a half year. Raisul Islam, officer-in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station, said that Jihad came to his house from the hotel on a three-day leave.

He went out from the house on Tuesday evening for going back to the hotel but he never made it there. Local farmers later spotted his body in the field and informed police.

Police later recovered the body and sent it to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital for an autopsy, said the OC adding that the boy was strangulated to death.

Current net, ‘jatka’ seized

Hatia Coast guards seized 2.5lakh meters of illegal current net and 100 kg Jatka early morning today after conducting drives in Nalchira and Sukhchar union of the district yesterday.

Hatia Coast Guard Station Commander Mehedi Hasan confirmed the incident. The official said that the current nets were destroyed by fire and the Jatkas’ were distributed to a nearby orphanage. Earlier on Monday, the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry launched ‘Special Combing Operation- 2020’ in 13 districts of the country in order to protect the Jatka and other coastal fish eggs, larvae and fries.

Set to be held in two phases, the first phase of the operation started on January 7 in Bhola, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chandpur, Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Barguna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Munshiganj and Pirojpur.

Youth killed in road accident

A motorcycle rider was killed in a road accident in Garaganj Bridge area on the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway under Shailkupa upazila of the district yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Shohag Hossain, 17, hailed from Rani Nagar village in the upazila and also a HSC student of Mia Jinnah Alam Degree College.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shailkupa Thana Bazlur Rahman said the accident occurred when a passengers bus hit Shohag’s motorcycle from behind in the area, leaving him dead on the spot. Police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue.
