Sombhabona arranges winter fest for underprivileged children

While the winter arrives as a matter of distress at the doors of underprivileged children in the country, Sombhabona, a social welfare organisation, made a day special for this deprived section of the society by arranging a unique event titled ‘Pushpokoli Winter Festival 2019’ entirely designed for them.

The festival took place at the gate no-5 of Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital on Friday. The event featured various types of arrangements for the children.

In an interesting segment called ‘Eat cake as much as possible’, the children were given an opportunity to eat various types of cakes as much as they could.

As part of the event, winter jackets and blankets were distributed among the children.  

Making it more colourful for the participating children, the festival also included  magic show, puppet show and cultural function by the students of Pushpokoli.

To share the happiness, the acting editor of daily Samakal Mustafiz Shafi, executive director of Standard Group Mohammad Tofazzal Ali and executive director of Walton Group Uday Hakim, among others, attended the festival.

Women entrepreneurs Hasina Jannat Saki, Aysha Jasmin, Salma Akter and the volunteers of Sombhabona were also present at the event.

General Secretary of Sombhabona Ariful Islam said that usually deprived children of the society do not get a chance to attend such kind of festival. Sombhabona wants to ensure that this section of people should get such kind of opportunities. Anybody can be part of this endeavour by taking responsibility of a child through sponsorship for a child.

From the inception in 2011, Sombhabona—a non-profit organisation, has been operating a free education programme for the underprivileged children in Dhaka.
