Family members of the slain Narayanganj ward councillor, Nazrul Islam, said they would file a petition with the High Court, seeking a remand for the prime accused, Nur Hossain, who was sent to jail on Friday. Speaking to The Independent yesterday, Selina Islam Beauty, the wife of Nazrul, expressed dissatisfaction over not placing Nur Hossain on remand in connection with the case, saying that a vested quarter is working towards preventing the unmasking of the names of the masterminds.
“I will file a petition with the higher court, seeking remand for Nur Hossain, so that the names of masterminds behind the killing can be unearthed,” she said. Although the Detective Branch has already submitted the chargesheet of the case, Nazrul’s wife claimed that Nur could still be interrogated for 11 other cases filed against him. Besides, Nur Hossain can be placed on remand under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, to unearth the mystery behind the killings, lawyers said.
Narayanganj chief judicial magistrate, Shahidul Islam, sent Nur to jail after the police produced him before the court yesterday afternoon. The court ordered that it is to be shown that he is arrested in 11 cases, including two filed over the seven murders, with Siddhirganj and Fatullah police stations.
On Friday, a Narayanganj court sent him to jail, saying, "There are arrest warrants in 11 cases against him. He should be sent to jail." Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said nobody, having involvement in the seven murders case in Narayanganj, will be spared no matter how powerful they are. “Those involved in the killings will be brought to book,” he told reporters after attending a seminar at the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) auditorium in the capital yesterday. “We will show zero tolerance on the matter and nobody will be spared,” he stated.
