BNP blames govt for rise in militant acts

UNB

Accusing the government of allowing militants and terrorists to raise their heads by weakening democratic forces, BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed yesterday alleged the regime has chosen a dangerous path to get international support and hang onto power, reports UNB. “Some derailed people and extremists are trying to create an anarchic situation in the country taking advantage of the government’s move to destroy democratic forces. A scope of terrorism and militancy has been created for lack of democratic forces,” he told a discussion.
Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, further said, “We think the government has deliberately resorted to the dangerous path to get international community’s support and perpetuate its power.” BNP arranged the discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day. Speaking at the programme as the chief guest, Moudud said BNP is a moderate democratic party which believes in transfer of power in a peaceful manner.
Mentioning that their party is against any form of militancy and terrorism, he said, “The government is making evil efforts to brand BNP as a militant party by carrying out false propaganda through media just to tarnish its party’s image.”
The BNP leader alleged that the government is arresting thousands of their “innocent’ leaders and activists across the country ahead of municipality polls to make its political gain. “This is a wrong move of the government which may invite a dangerous situation in the country. We strongly condemn it.”
Referring to the recent murders of two foreigners, cops, bloggers and other terrorist attacks, he said the extremists and terrorists are carrying out the incidents as the government is busy obliterating the democratic forces.
Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, said, “We want to urge the government to shun this perilous path and restore democracy and create a democratic environment to suppress militancy and terrorism and allow the opposition to play its due role.”
He said there are to paths—one creating a democratic atmosphere by immediately holding a free, fair and inclusive election, and another is uniting all democratic forces and political parties—for the nation to contain militancy and terrorism.
“If you really love the country and is sincere to suppress the militancy, restore democracy and stop repression and suppression on political parties,” he said pointing at the government.
The BNP leader said their party and all other parties want to help the government take proper sets so
that Bangladesh does not turn into a militant and terrorist state.
