Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Saturday called for preventing degradation of moral and social values in the greater interest of civilization and its sustenance.
“Bangladesh witnessed many global developments. We are nearing to achieve economic emancipation, but we are yet to maintain social norms and practices,” he said.
The minister was addressing a discussion on ‘Enlightened 50 Years’ at Government Titumir College in the city marking the golden jubilee of the College, said a press release.
Rezaul urged the students not to confine them in bookish knowledge and said the students should also be taught honesty, morality, values and patriotism along with academic study.
Convener of the 50 years celebration committee and alumni of the Government Titumir College Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, former students freedom fighter Anwar Hossain, freedom fighter Mozammel Haque, former vice-president (VP) and freedom fighter Kamal Uddin Ahmed, former ambassador Sohrab Hossain and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Abu Jafar Surjo, Principal of the college Md Ashraf Hossain addressed the function, among others.
