Dredging of Brahmaputra shortly begins: Khalid

State Minister of Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, today declared that much awaited dredging of the Brahmaputra will begin on emergency basis to maintain smooth navigability in Roumari and Rajibpur upazilas which linked with Kurigram district town by the river route.
After dredging of the Brahmaputra, the poorer section and river erosion-hit people of the area can easily travel and transport goods to Kurigram district town at lower costs using the river route from the Chilmari River Port, Mahmud said.
Mahmud said this while addressing the first reunion of the former students of Jadurchar High School at its Platinum Jubilee founding anniversary celebration function in Roumari upazila of Kurigram this afternoon as the chief guest.
Convener of the Celebration Committee of Jadurchar High School and former Chairman of Roumari upazila parishad Mohammad Mujibur Rahman Bangabashi presided over the function.
