Abahani Limited stormed into the quarterfinals of the TVS Federation Cup football tournament as  Group A champions winning their both matches after defeating Arambagh Krira Sangha by 5-1 at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday.  The defending champions enjoyed a clean domination despite the Serbian coach Mario Lemos rested his three men from regular the starting lineup.

Holders did not face any harm to win the match with big margin enjoying the better possessions against an underdog Arambagh gripped with casino controversy. Arambagh this time could not form any strong side as they had in the previous season threatened the giants very often and also finished the league at the middle of the points table when they face in huge trouble after their high ups’ were accused with casino business.

However, Sunday opened the flood-gate for Abahani in the ninth minute when Arambagh could halt the holders in the rest of first half but the Sky-Blue returned in action in the sixth minute after the break and added four goals more goals with Jibon, Nasir Uddin, Mamunul and Faisal Ahmed scored apiece to  stretch the Arambagh frustration.  Sunday initiated the lead with a close range finish after a combination of Jewel Rana and Jibon (1-0).

Arambagh could finish the first half trailing  0-1 but Abahani turned into a different mood in the second half with Jibon doubled advantage on 51st minute finishing a Belfort back heel inside the area and defender Nasir Uddin made it 3-0 on 57th after a long throw in from Raihan Hassan came to his way. Mamunul, former national team captain enlarged the margin on 73rd minute when the veteran playmaker powered his left footer on a Sunday back pass inside the box (4-0).

Substitute Faisal Ahmed Shitul joined the celebration with scoring a goal on 80th minute with a good header on a Rubel Mea lofted cross from the right (5-0).  Arambagh had a consolation with Murad Hossain reduced one goal on 86th minute but the giants killers of last season eliminated from the group stage of the tournament following their first defeat at the hands of Police FC.
