Heaping heavy praise on some of the U19 players, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon said that the U19 cricket team has been in really good shape over the past few months which he would like to see them continue throughout the young Tigers’ 2020 U19 World Cup campaign in South Africa, slated to be played from January 17.

After the Bangladesh U19 cricket team has been playing a for a quite long and with fruitful overseas experience under their belt, the BCB boss also expressed his optimism saying that the Akbar Ali led U19 side are quite confident to do well in South Africa as they are pretty used to play in the foreign condition.

While talking to the reporters at the reception center of the SBNCS yesterday Nazmul said, “I just told them people don’t remember what happened in the past. What is the going at the moment is more important. They really played brilliant cricket in the recent past and got the good results. There is no way to deny that.”

“I firmly believe that they are capable of playing good cricket in South Africa. Some of the players have quite potential. I told them if they qualify for the semi-final, I will fly for South Africa where I’ve never gone before,” the BCB boss also added. Nazmul Hassan Papon also reiterated that the U19 team is one of the best sides that had done excellent job in abroad considering the success of any other team.

“Our U19 side are set to leave for South Africa to play the World Cup. In terms of preparation this is so far the best side we have sent abroad. They have a lot of experience playing in foreign conditions. They beat England 2-0, outplayed New Zealand by 4-1. So, I can say they have done reasonably good there.”

Bangladesh U19 team is expected to leave for South Africa on January 3. The team will play two practice matches and two warm-up matches before playing their first match against Zimbabwe in Johannesburg on January 18.
